A Golden Moment at the World Scholar’s Cup
At the World Scholar’s Cup 2025, Rio brought home an incredible 12 gold medals, one silver medal, Top 3 in Debate, Top 2 in the Challenge category, and the Champion Cup (Top 1 – Skittle).
Reflecting on this achievement, Rio said,
“I’m most proud of the World Scholar’s Cup because it involves so many different skills - writing, debating, and even inquiry. It’s also where I earned the most medals!”
When asked about his favourite part of the event, he added:
“The award ceremony! It was so exciting - everyone was holding their breath hoping to win a medal or a trophy.”
Success Across Mathematics and Science
Beyond the World Scholar’s Cup, Rio also represented the school and Vietnam with excellence in other international contests:
- Bronze Medal in Mathematics – SIMOC Competition, Singapore
- Bronze Medal in Science – VANDA Competition
- Distinction (Top 9% in Vietnam) – Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)
When asked what he enjoys most about competing, Rio shared with a smile:
“I enjoy learning new facts - and earning medals!”
Behind the Scenes: Practice, Perseverance, and Positivity
Preparing for such a variety of competitions takes focus and effort. Rio explained:
“My mum helps by signing me up for lessons in each subject. I also do a lot of extra practice sheets.”
Of course, not every challenge goes perfectly. Rio recalled one tricky moment during the World Scholar’s Cup: “Our remote for keeping score kept turning off, and it would reset the points! I just took a deep breath to calm down.”
Looking Ahead
With so many successes already, Rio has big dreams for the year ahead:
“I want to join more international competitions in science and debate - and hopefully qualify for the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions!”
Congratulations, Rio, on your incredible achievements and inspiring determination. You’ve shown that with curiosity, effort, and a positive spirit, anything is possible!
