Weekly Newsletter - 04th September 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Yesterday the School tested its emergency communication system by sending a short text message to all parents, guardians and school staff using the mobile phone numbers that we have on record.  If you did not receive a text message from the School yesterday, please contact the Admissions Department at admissions@eishcmc.com to update your contact details.

STUDENT ASSESSMENT AND PROGRESS
This week students in grades 3 to 10 participated in the International Schools’ Assessments. (ISAs). This is the fourth year that EIS participated in these assessments. The tests are in numeracy and literacy. The results are benchmarked based on the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The tests are designed specifically for international students and are currently used in over 350 schools worldwide. We anticipate that the results will be available later in the school year when the organization has analyzed the data.

SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION OF CHILDREN
We will be organizing a series of assemblies for students, in Grade 6 to 10, next term to provide an overview of aspects of safeguarding. Areas that will be address will include bullying, internet safety, personal space and appropriate touch. These topics will be expanded in our Advisory Program meetings.

This is in line with our Learning Principle:
“EIS students enjoy a teaching and learning environment where they feel safe, secure and cared for”

Please note once again that the school has established a Safeguarding Committee and Mrs. Shane Priddis has been appointed to the position of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).   She can be contacted directly on shane.priddis@eishcmc.com if you require any further information or have any concerns.

UNITED NATION’s DAY
We are getting ready to celebrate the United Nations Day, which will take place on October 24th, Wednesday. We have planned a morning of fun and activities with a classroom focus on Sustainable Tourism.

To recognise and share the incredible diversity in our school CPR will be in touch with parents to ask to prepare a small plate of food from your home country that will be shared with your child's homeroom. Please remember that the school is nut free and that some children may be allergic to some foods e.g. seafood.

We will hold a number of information events for parents who may be interested in more details of the Accreditation Process and the development of the school’s new Safeguarding Policy.
The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, 30th October at 3.00pm in the LRC.
