Weekly email from EIS to Parents - 24th October 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

United Nations Day Assembly
What a great assembly and celebration of the ideals of the UN today! Well done to the students for their enthusiastic participation in the parade and in their performances. During the day students were also engaged in activities to research and understand better the UN Sustainable Goals. Photos are available here.

“The Mona Lisa Effect”
Thank you to parents who attended the presentation by Mr. Matthew Savage on student assessment, including an overview of GL Assessments which the school is currently introducing. The assessments contribute to a ‘whole student’ view to assessment, one that covers ability, attitude and attainment to provide a holistic view of each student. This approach provides teachers with the data and insights to inform teaching and learning and student progress. The handout provided by Mr. Savage is available here. These initiatives are in line with our learning principles that each student understands the purpose of their learning and that they are provided with opportunities to learn that align with their individual needs and stage of development.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences
Parent Teacher Student Conferences will be held during next week. Separate information has been provided to sections of the school as appropriate. This is an important opportunity for feedback to parents and students so please discuss their attitude to school and learning with students at home. Air Quality
We continue to share the concerns of our school community regarding the serious air quality issues that we have experienced in recent weeks.
Currently the School has two types of air filtering systems in place:

  1. The new building has a 2-filter system where air first flows through an ultrafilter and then the air passes through to indoor air conditioning units which provides additional filtration.
  2. Individual commercial grade air filtration units (IQ Air Healthpro 250 model) are located inside villa classrooms.

We also have revised an Air Quality Guidelines chart, which clearly outlines the actions that teachers and staff are informed to take, for different levels of air quality. This can be accessed here. Additionally, during the break, an air quality safety audit was undertaken by an external consultancy company. We expect to receive their report shortly and will be following up on any recommendations for improvement.

Meet the SLT
The next Meet the SLT meeting will take place on Monday, November 4th, November at 8.00am in the MPR. The theme for information and discussion with be the school’s policies and procedures regarding “Safeguarding and Child Protection”. Please sign up for your attendance via this form.

Launch of Parent Portal
