European International School Ho Chi Minh City (EIS) offers a rich and diverse programme of After School Activities (ASAs) for all students from Early Years to Grade 12, most of which are included within the tuition fee. Students are given space and time to develop their artistic talents, social competencies, physical endurance and skills, as well as having fun in a supervised and supportive environment.

Weekly email from EIS to Parents - 10th October 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Meet the SLT
Thank you to those parents who attended the meeting on last Monday morning. The broad theme of ‘’technology’’ provided an opportunity for discussion on a range of issues, and important feedback to the school, especially as we move forward to develop a new technology plan for the school.

Lego Expo
Students enjoyed very much exploring the Lego Expo in school this week. Students were able to view designs of unique models and engage to explore their creativity. Additionally, some students improved their motor skills and enjoyed playing board games made from Lego bricks – fun, diverse learning.  Photos are available here.

GL Assessments Parent Workshop on Tuesday, October 22nd.
The school is currently implementing a scheme of benchmark assessments to better understand the learning of individual students. The data from the assessments will be used by teachers to better inform teaching. Mr. Matthew Savage, visiting consultant, will provide an overview workshop of these assessment for parents on Tuesday, October 22nd at 8.00am in the MPR. Please note in your calendar (first day of Term 2) and register your attendance via this form.

Air Quality
The School is aware of the concerns regarding air quality in Vietnam at present, and the consequent risks to health. As a brief update:

  • The Health & Safety Committee is currently undertaking a full review of the filtration systems in classrooms, and air quality processes across the School.
  • We are discussing with consultants next week on matters of best practice, additional equipment that may be needed and any additional safety measures that can be taken.
  • We are exploring the best way to provide parents with real time AQI information from the School’s current sensors (possibly through the School’s website?).
  • In the first week of Term 2, we will share with parents:
    • The School’s procedures for monitoring (and acting upon) the AQI information that we receive, including what happens when the AQI levels are in each of the colour ‘zones’ (e.g. the orange zone or the red zone)
    • Information about the School’s filtration systems, updates to the system, and other practical advice

Access to Campus during the school day
After morning drop-off the entrance at Ngo Quang Huy is closed at 8.15am and the access to the school during the day, until pick-up time, access is only through the main gate at Le Van Mien Street. Arising from recent practice drills it is essential, especially in the case of an emergency, that there is a record of those who are on campus. Therefore all persons entering and leaving the campus during the school day are asked to sign the in/out register, taking care to exit and sign out through the same gate, where possible.

Lunch Menu
For Early Years: The weekly menu can be found on the notice board in the Little Explorers campus.
For Primary: Please kindly make your selection from the menu for your child/children and submit your choices by Monday 21st October 2019. Please ask your children to help with the choosing of their meals as this ensures that they are learning to take some responsibility for their food choices.
For Middle & High School: Menu is available here.

Launch of Parent Portal
The test portal has been sent to CPRs for review prior to an open launch to all parents. Thank you for providing feedback that will inform our roll out.

United Nations Day – Food brought from home reminder.
An Assembly and other celebration activities will be held on Thursday, October 24th. Further information has been provided by teachers and through the CPRs. The theme is ‘’Every plate tells a story” and students are invited to bring food from their country to share on that day.
